“… Trump and Pence will be sworn in on the west front of the Capitol . Their families and members of Congress, the U.S. Supreme Court, diplomatic corps and other invited guests will be seated on the ceremony platform. Amid tight security and frigid weather, the best seat is likely going to be your couch. The event will be televised and streamed live online, including here on

Security will be tight, with all viewing areas near the event requiring tickets – 250,000 of them – and a security screening beginning when gates open at 6 a.m.

Obama Commutes Bulk of Chelsea Manning’s Sentence | 17 Jan 2017 | President Obama on Tuesday largely commuted the remaining prison sentence of Chelsea Manning, the army intelligence analyst convicted of an enormous 2010 leak that revealed American military and diplomatic activities across the world, disrupted the administration, and made WikiLeaks, the recipient of those disclosures, famous. The decision by Mr. Obama rescued Ms. Manning, who twice tried to commit suicide last year, from an uncertain future as a transgender woman incarcerated at the male military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. She has been jailed for nearly seven years, and her 35-year sentence was by far the longest punishment ever imposed in the United States for a leak conviction. Now, under the terms of Mr. Obama’s commutation announced by the White House on Tuesday, Ms. Manning is set to be freed in five months, on May 17 of this year, rather than in 2045.

Inspired by the legend of Archimedes’s defense against the Roman siege using giant mirrors, designer Nikolas Bentel created mirrored protest signs to help activists battling the Dakota Access Pipeline. Instead of setting fires like the mirrors in the legend, though, these signs were designed to reflect images of police and distract them with glaring light. More at the link:

Is Politically Correct or Jingoistic Reporting Fake News?

Americans need to learn what is really going on both at home and abroad

Innately conflict-averse

Tweet (Andrea Chalupa):

“Putin killed more civilians in Syria than ISIS. He is the world’s most dangerous terrorist. He needs a war to stay in power, force alliances”

This might be a good time to take a break from self-incriminating tweets!  “Guess what’s neither meat nor fish, but Ms. Chalupa and John Schindler, by Scott”.

Say What? Nazi Kiev Junta files Hague case on Russia for ‘Racism'”.  Financing of terrorism (an obsession of Jewish lawfare):  “Prosecutor: NATO chief auditor committed suicide”.

Trump, Putin and the Pipelines to Nowhere”.  Smarter than most attacks on Trump, which are just name calling..

Russian Agent: Who Gave US Uranium To Putin, Trump Or Hillary?”.

The immaculate conception of Louis Brandeis”.  To be read with:  “JEWISH ROYALTY 1″ and “JEWISH ROYALTY 2″.

You’ll remember Singer’s raping of Argentina:  “SOUTH KOREA ,BAN KI MOON ,SAMSUNG AND PAUL SINGER”.

The Trump Dossier Is Fake — And Here Are The Reasons Why”.  Lots of reasons why.

Head of MI6 used information from Trump dossier in first public speech”.  On the issue of how much Steele was working for the British government.

Did the Russians Really Hack the DNC?”  Good summary.  Note:

1the peculiar alleged combination of technical sophistication, and the failure to take the most rudimentary and easy steps to block evidence pointing to Russians; and

2the possibility there was both a hack and a leak, and the WikiLeaks information came from an insider leak.

Here I Am Again, My Friends!”

Details of the oppo research players (“Andrew Wood (diplomat)”  “Fusion GPS”):  “Ex-MI6 agent Christopher Steele was so troubled by findings on Donald Trump that he worked for free: report”:

“Glenn Simpson, a former investigative reporter with the Wall Street Journal, reportedly felt the same way about Steele’s findings and joined him in his unprofitable crusade, according to people familiar with the matter.

Simpson — who runs the Washington, D.C.-based Fusion GPS — was contracted by some of Trump’s Republican opponents in September 2015 and sources said he and Steele began working together last July.

Over the course of that summer, Steele sent out several memos to both the MI6 and the FBI and eventually compiled the information into the dossier published earlier this week. But he wasn’t making any headway — particularly not with the FBI’s New York office, which he claims seemed intent on focusing all its energy on Clinton’s email scandal.

In October, a disheartened Steele spoke to the Washington editor of Mother Jones about his findings, temporarily sparking a thread of public interest that quickly subsided.

After the election, Steele and Simpson doubled down on their efforts, hoping that the U.S. intelligence community’s consensus on Russia having interfered in the 2016 election would prompt further interest in their findings.

It was at that point that Andrew Wood, a former British ambassador to Moscow, spoke with Arizona Sen. John McCain at a security conference in Canada. Wood told McCain about the dossier, which concerned the longtime senator to the point that he alerted the FBI about it immediately.”

BuzzFeed’s Golden Showers”:

“I’d also note here one peculiar, and possibly unethical, thing about the New York Times’ behavior here. The Times, like everyone but BuzzFeed, didn’t publish the report but they wrote quite a bit about it. In an early story it said that they would not identify the research firm behind the leaked memos because of “a confidential source agreement with The New York Times.” Then it revealed the firm’s name in a later story and edited the earlier one to take out the line about their confidential source agreement.

So it looks like the Times violated a confidentiality agreement, which is pretty troubling, especially because it has started a big push to get anonymous tips. “Not to get overly dramatic but Deep Throat wasn’t outed, even though he would have made a really cool feature,” a friend remarked to me.”

How Fake News started in the Middle East media: it began with–you guessed it–Israel”.

Former Newspaper Editor Who Exposed CIA Found Dead”.

Statement: Palestinian students in UK demand resignation of National Union of Students VP following Al Jazeera investigation”.

The President Who Wasn’t There: Barack Obama’s Legacy of Impotence”:  “innately conflict-averse”.

The Issue Is Not Trump, It’s Us”.  It still continues to amaze that the Obama worshippers are still going with the ‘unfit for office’ attacks against Trump.

January 17-18, 2017 — Neocons and globalists regrouping to battle Russia; Trump

(in: WMR GENERAL ARCHIVES January 2017)

Jan 17, 2017

Canada emerges as a major threat to U.S. national security under Trump.

“… Pro Russian journalist John Helmer has come out with an excellent piece on the recent appointment of neophyte ethnic Ukrainian Canadian MP Chrystia Freeland to the prominent position of Canadian Minister for Foreign Affairs…displacing the long term parliamentarian and former leader of the Liberal Party, Stephan Dion.  Dion was so shocked at being replaced only one year after his appointment that he quit politics entirely.

As I speculated in an earlier post, , this appointment smacks of outside (CIA) interference in Canadian political affairs.  John Helmer says that the appointment was probably long planned…with the anticipation of Hillary Clinton becoming President.  Clinton and Freeland hold similar views on Russia and, in particular, the Crimea annexation (after a referendum during which the ethnic Russian Crimeans voted over 90% to rejoin Russia).  It was likely hoped that Clinton would be able to use Freeland to embarrass and bully Putin.  Helmer wisely speculates that Trudeau, not being the sharpest knife in the drawer…probably didn’t think up the idea himself….”

January 16-17, 2017 — MLK family’s doubts about the official version of April ’68 events

The corporate media will never report on the U.S. government conspiracy to kill Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK Day – Summary of AN ACT OF STATE by William Pepper

Posted by James Hufferd at 7:48 PM

Nearly 50 years since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the FBI and Memphis Police Department have sparingly released information implicating themselves or members of their agencies in facilitating and directly causing the untimely death of Dr. King. Although the Justice Department officially claims James Earl Ray assassinated MLK, a civil suit later determined that a Memphis cop was involved in a conspiracy to murder the civil rights leader.

Last night we reported that while snacking on $40 hotdogs, the global financial, political and entertainment elite will be “struggling for answers” and cowering in “silent fear” as the world’s most powerful people face a force they have never encountered before – the rising tide of populism, first demonstrated by the “unexpected” Brexit vote and subsequently by the “shocking” election of Trump. As Moises Naim of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace put it, “there is a consensus that something huge is going on, global and in many respects unprecedented. But we don’t know what the causes are, nor how to deal with it.”

Despite our best efforts, we in the American police state seem to be stuck on repeat, reliving the same set of circumstances over and over and over again: egregious surveillance, strip searches, police shootings of unarmed citizens, government spying, censorship, retaliatory arrests, the criminalization of lawful activities, warmongering, indefinite detentions, SWAT team raids, asset forfeiture, etc. Unfortunately, as a nation we’ve become so desensitized to the government’s acts of violence, so accustomed to reports of government corruption, and so anesthetized to the sights and sounds of Corporate America marching in lockstep with the police state that few seem to pay heed to the warning signs blaring out the message: Danger Ahead.

Donald Trump branded outgoing CIA chief Brennan “the leaker of fake news” after he told Trump to grasp the “Russia threat” instead of “talking and tweeting,” stirring up another feud between the incoming administration and the intelligence community. Tensions between US President-elect Donald Trump and the intelligence community escalated once again this weekend as outgoing CIA Director John Brennan fiercely attacked Trump’s views on US-Russia rapprochement.

Matthew Boyle reports for Breitbart: The World Economic Forum’s annual gathering of globalist political, financial and cultural elitists is underway in Davos, Switzerland, but the organization’s founder is planning an emergency Washington, D.C., meeting in 2017 for worried elites worldwide to discuss how to deal with President-elect Donald J. Trump.

Clarifying clarifying

This always happens to the far right!:  “Here’s the Thing”.

From the comment by james robertson:

“Xymphora is a proponent of the idea that behind many/most of the world ills lies the barely concealed influence of powerful Jewish interests. When he uses the term “clarifying” it will generally be a description of a particularly obnoxious and dishonest piece of propaganda written by a Jewish individual.”

I think the first sentence is more or less true, but clarifying does not refer to Jews – I hardly need any more evidence of that kind of perfidy! – but to the post-Trump wailings of the credentialed class, the liberals, the ‘left’, ‘progressives’, and their ilk (of course, many of whom are, in fact, Jewish, with certainly violent racist supremacist motives).  These are the people who have tried to pass for progressive for years, whining about things that the Republicans have done, but we now know with their McCarthyism and warmongering that their attempts to pass as good, decent, moral people was all just partisan bullshit.  The liberals have proven to be no better than the Koch brothers. 8 Men as Rich as Half the World

January 15th, 2017 by Kevin

Get yourself a side hustle and a podshare.

Via: ABC:

The gap between the super-rich and the poorest half of the global population is starker than previously thought, with just eight men, from Bill Gates to Michael Bloomberg, owning as much wealth as 3.6 billion people, according to an analysis by Oxfam released Monday.

Presenting its findings on the dawn of the annual gathering of the global political and business elites in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, anti-poverty organization Oxfam says the gap between the very rich and poor is far greater than just a year ago. It’s urging leaders to do more than pay lip-service to the problem.

If not, it warns, public anger against this kind of inequality will continue to grow and lead to more seismic political changes akin to last year’s election of Donald Trump as U.S. president and Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.

Posted in Atrocities, Collapse, Economy, Elite

[Ed.: The 3.6 billion could seize, kill, boil and eat those 8 people but it would not liquidate their wealth.  I don’t think mandatory philanthropy — especially given the penchant for NGO’s and foundations as devices for social engineering — is the answer. You have to be psychopathic to become that rich, so shaming won’t work either. There’s no political answer that I’m aware of (ex.: socialism or communism) that will answer the problem without creating an even larger one, or simply transferring the wealth and power farther away from the people. Personal empowerment might work, but a lot of people don’t want to be empowered and couldn’t handle the responsibility of it if they stumbled into it.]

President-elect Donald Trump surprised many when he chose one of President Obama’s appointees to run the Department of Veterans Affairs after pledging to overhaul the department during the campaign.

Veterans groups called the choice a pleasant surprise, as they say Shulkin has overseen a turnaround in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and resisted calls for privatizing the federal system.

In His First Foreign Trip As President, Trump Plans To Meet With Putin In Reykjavik”.  “Trump Ensnares Media in Yet Another Fake News Boondoggle”.  You have to wonder if this is Trump trying to do the sane, moral and decent thing, but then being shut down by his advisers.

Advisers like the walking cliché of an orthodox Jew slum landlord:  “Jared Kushner, Thug Landlord”.  “Jared Kushner’s East Village Tenants ‘Horrified’ Their Landlord Will Be Working in the White House”.  Note that the famous old tropes of anti-Semitism are now encouraged and promoted if they are an attack on Trump.

Israel insists attack on soldiers in occupied territory is “terror””. “What standards do you want to impose on the right of the Palestinians to resist occupation? Attacks on soldiers is terrorism?”. ‘Terrorism’ is a meaningless propaganda term created to allow Jews to slaughter people and steal their land.  The tender feelings of violent racist group supremacists in the Jew-controlled media:  “New York Times editor says attack on soldiers “felt like terrorism””.

US intel sources warn Israel against sharing secrets with Trump administration”.  If you think about this for just a moment you will realize that we would not have heard about it if there were any truth to it.  It is just another part of the campaign by World Jewry against Trump.

Hi, Haim!:  “Gizmodo Joins Fake News Bandwagon”.  Do you think it is more likely that RT controls CNN’s news feed, or CNN?  That scoundrel Putin is omnipotent!

This is an example of amazing, and extremely dangerous, fake news:  “Iran repopulates Syria with Shia Muslims to help tighten regime’s control”.

Still extremely weird – I assume, unprecedented – that Jeb! started paying for the oppo and then the Democrats picked up the rest of the bill:  “Confirmed: “Unknown” Republican, Democrat Paid For Anti-Trump Report”.

There is some fairly amazing wackadoodle conspiracy tweeting going on concerning Trump/Putin/Assange.

UK: Corbyn calls for probe into Israeli ‘interference'”.  “AIPAC’s secretive strategy to transform UK politics”.  “Who is lying about Israeli embassy agent Shai Masot?”.  “Is Labour Friends of Israel an Israeli embassy front?”.  The patience of the goyim only seems limitless.  This is part of the new awakening of the peasants.  Tweet (George Galloway):

The 2015/16 tropes about “anti-Semitism” in the Labour Party constituted a giant hoax. And they were orchestrated by the Israeli embassy.”

Trump’s CIA nominee wants a massive surveillance database of Americans

Congress should allow surveillance agencies to collect “all metadata” and combine it with “publicly available financial and lifestyle information into a comprehensive, searchable database,” Pompeo said in an opinion piece he co-authored in January 2016.

[remember “Is There an Echo in Here”?” at Occurrences/seven days ?]

Listen to this frank discussion with Patrick Wood on the Total Surveillance Society in which Patrick Wood describes how the former CEO of Google, and now Executive Chairman of Alphabet, Inc., Eric Schmidt, believes he knows how to run the world according to what has been described as a “direct technocracy” by Parag Khanna. It was Eric Schmidt who developed the social media campaign for Hillary Clinton and made numerous visits to the White House. In 2016, Forbes ranked Eric Schmidt as the “100th-richest person in the world, with an estimated wealth of US$11.6 billion.” This technology needs to be reigned in to be neutral considering that Eric Schmidt is a member of the Trilateral Commission and feels “he knows best how to run the world according to his technocratic designs.”

Ark Midnight #31– Total Surveillance Society – With Patrick Wood (90 minutes)

Parag Khanna wants to convert the United States and its institutions to what he calls “direct technocracy” replacing the US Senate and Congress with executive committees, and to merge cabinet agencies for more efficiency. Parag Khanna would like to see for example, The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) be merged with the Department of Defense. This may explain why recently, Wisconsin Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner introduced a bill to congress that aims to “dissolve the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and fuse its responsibility into other federal agencies.”

Why is it that Indian-born “Americans” are moving into critical infrastructure related to surveillance in America and are often found at the head of many organizations connected to this technocratic cartel? Vinod Khosla is at the “Silicon Valley technological cartel”, Indian-born Parag Khanna who wants to change American institutions into a “direct technocracy”, and Arati Prabhakar who is Indian-born heads DARPA?

“Our staff has been in ongoing discussions with Legal Sea Foods to ensure their continued participation in the inaugural celebrations,” said Boris Epshteyn, Director of Communications, Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Controversial Dossier on Trump Alleges That Russia Targets Jewish-American Businessmen”.  Lots of code here for the concept of dual loyalty, and anti-treasonous attempts of Russia to deal with it.

Interstitiality is a term recently popularized in identity politics (see also intersectionality).  It was big in the Clinton campaign.  We used to call it ‘double-dipping’, the idea that various people ought to be able to get multiple gibs based on falling in multiple categories of victimhood.  Politics is reduced to the calculation of how much people are owed based on the number and type of oppressions they face.   The Trump hatred is so interstitial that the BuzzFeed attack was inevitable (and actually a strong tribute to Trump in that he scares so much Evil):

1BigJew and World Jewry who control the media hate Putin due to his effective blocking of the expansion of the Zionist Empire, and hate Trump for his isolationism and rebuttal of identity politics;

2the Ukrainians hate Putin for his deft recovery from the effects of the Maidan color revolution, and hate Trump out of sheer terror that he won’t restart the Cold War, which they perceive as literally their last hope;

3The CIA hates Trump out of fear he will side with the Pentagon and vastly reduce CIA influence and corruption;

4Old cold warriors like McCain hate Trump due to his isolationism and sanity with respect to American-Russian relations;

5MI6 sides with their pals/bosses in the CIA; and

6There is likely treason within the Russian government by those assisting in the fabrication (and there may be NATO involvement, given the loss of power to NATO bureaucrats should any peace break out).

It is unwise to refer to this as a ‘deep state’ attack, as that obfuscates the nature and identity of the very identifiable actors involved, who have varying motives for the attack.  In fact, the failure of the attack to gain much traction outside the Jew-controlled media is evidence that other big players who are also parts of the deep state are still siding with Trump.  There are actually American patriots who who dislike Trump but find this kind of attempt at a foreign coup disturbing.

Just off a winding highway along the Pacific coast in Monterey, California, is a private clinic where people can pay $8,000 to have their veins pumped with blood plasma from teenagers and young adults. Jesse Karmazin is the entrepreneur who made the practice possible, by launching a clinical trial on the potential of “young blood” through his startup Ambrosia. He says that within a month, most participants “see improvements” from the one-time infusion of a two-liter bagful of plasma, which is blood with the blood cells removed.

“… if there’s one thing that really excites Thiel, it’s the prospect of having younger people’s blood transfused into his own veins.

That practice is known as parabiosis, and, according to Thiel, it’s a potential biological Fountain of Youth–the closest thing science has discovered to an anti-aging panacea…..

Ambrosia’s founder, the Stanford-trained physician Jesse Karmazin, has been studying aging for more than a decade. He became interested in launching a company around parabiosis after seeing impressive data from animals and studies conducted abroad in humans: In one trial after another, subjects experience a reversal of aging symptoms across every major organ system. While the mechanisms at play aren’t totally understood, he said, young organisms’ blood not only contains all sorts of proteins that improve cell function; somehow it also prompts the recipients’ body to increase its production of those proteins.

“The effects seem to be almost permanent,” he says. “It’s almost like there’s a resetting of gene expression.”

While Ambrosia advertised the study to attract participants, it didn’t seek broader coverage. So Karmazin was somewhat surprised to get a message from Jason Camm, chief medical officer at Thiel Capital, who expressed interest in what the company was doing. (Karmazin said he hasn’t reached out to any investors: “I’d really want to talk about what the business model would be.”)

The former head of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) confronted FBI Director James Comey on Friday during a confidential briefing on Russian hacking that left many Democrats calling for Comey’s scalp, several lawmakers told The Hill.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), who was forced to resign last summer as head of the DNC amid the hacking scandal, told Comey that he should have come to her directly once the FBI was aware of the breach, just as he had done with other hacking victims.

January 13-15, 2017 — NBC, owner of BuzzFeed, embellishes MI6 principal suspect in Trump “dirty dossier” caper

(in: WMR GENERAL ARCHIVES January 2017)

Jan 13, 2017

NBC pushing “fake news” about MI-6 originator of Trump

Factual errors

The Buzzfeed disinfo memo is frustrating as almost all of the ‘facts’ provided to us come from some intelligence operation (i.e., known professional liars).  About the only thing we know for sure is that there are a lot of Ukrainians in and around the operation, and a few glimpses we can get with meta-analysis.

John McCain passes dossier alleging secret Trump-Russia contacts to FBI”:

“Despite glowing references from US and foreign officials who have worked with the source, there are some errors in the reports. One describes the Moscow suburb of Barvikha as “reserved for the residences of the top leadership and their close associates”, but although it is a very expensive neighbourhood, there are no restrictions on who can own property there. The document also misspells the name of a Russian banking corporation.”

and (date altering complicates the analysis):

“Some of the reports – which are dated from 20 June to 20 October last year – also proved to be prescient, predicting events that happened after they were sent.” ”

10 key Donald Trump allegations from the classified Russia dossier”:

The documents contain some clear factual errors

Top level Russian official confirms current closeness of Alpha Group-Putin relationship. Significant favours continue to be done in both directions and Fridman and Aven still giving informal advice to Putin, especially on the US.

COMMENT: The company is named Alfa Group, not Alpha Group as it appears throughout the documents. Elsewhere, according to BuzzFeed News, the unnamed author describes the settlement of Barvikha, outside Moscow, as “reserved for the residences of the top leadership and their close associates”. It is not reserved for anyone, and it is also populated by the very wealthy, BuzzFeed News reports.”

Steele is a former top-level MI6 counterintelligence agent specializing in Russia. He would not make these mistakes.  I have to conclude that somebody else wrote the material – educated guess, Ukrainians who would make these mistakes – and Steele sold his name to put on them and act as a spokesman in order to give them credibility.

How the Trump dossier came to light: secret sources, a retired spy and John McCain” (my emphasis in red; what possible reason would there be to hide the city?):

“In mid-November, the documents took another route into Washington that ultimately led to them being mentioned in the joint intelligence report on Russian interference that was delivered to President Obama and President-elect Trump. On 18 November, the annual Halifax International Security Forum opened in the Canadian city, bringing together serving and former security and foreign policy officials from around the world.

Senator John McCain, a hawkish Republican, was there and was introduced to a former senior western diplomat who had seen the documents, knew their source and thought him highly reliable. McCain decided the implications were sufficiently alarming to dispatch a trusted emissary, a former US official, to meet the source and find out more.

The emissary hastily arranged a transatlantic flight and met the source at the airport as arranged. (The Guardian has agreed not to specify the city or country where the meeting took place.) The meeting had a certain cold war tradecraft to it, as he was told to look for a man with a copy of the Financial Times. Having found each other, the retired counter-intelligence officer drove the emissary to his house, where they discussed the documents and their background.”

McCain is probably helping his neo-Nazi pals in Ukraine, as this whole operation had been a dud up to McCain’s involvement:  “BuzzFeed Posts Unverified Claims on Trump, Igniting a Debate”:

“But BuzzFeed’s move was welcomed by some people, who expressed concern that news outlets and government officials with access to the allegations had not disclosed them sooner. Almost immediately, the report’s publication prompted questions from Hillary Clinton’s camp about why the claims had not surfaced earlier.

“Today has brought a gush of reporting that outlets knew about and sat on prior to November 8,” Brian Fallon, Mrs. Clinton’s chief campaign spokesman, wrote on Twitter. He added, in a second message: “I repeat: certain media outlets were told this prior to November 8.”

Mother Jones, a left-leaning publication, published an article in late October about the existence of the information. Newsweek also published some of the allegations.

Immediately after BuzzFeed’s publication, some reporters volunteered that they, too, had received copies of the report. “Raise your hand if you too were approached with this story,” Julia Ioffe, a journalist who has written extensively on Russia, wrote on Twitter, adding that she had not reported on the information in the document “because it was impossible to verify.”

Writers at the blog Lawfare, which covers national security issues, said they had been in possession of the document “for a couple of weeks” but opted not to publish because the allegations were unproven.”

It appears that the material was widely disseminated in mid to late October to the kind of ‘journalists’ who might take the bait.  The Corn piece from October 31 (which also refers to Harry Reid’s vague allegations in his August 27 letter to Comey probably inspired by ‘Steele’s’ first memo or memos in summer 2016):

“But Reid’s recent note hinted at more than the Page or Manafort affairs. And a former senior intelligence officer for a Western country who specialized in Russian counterintelligence tells Mother Jones that in recent months he provided the bureau with memos, based on his recent interactions with Russian sources, contending the Russian government has for years tried to co-opt and assist Trump—and that the FBI requested more information from him.

“This is something of huge significance, way above party politics,” the former intelligence officer says. “I think [Trump’s] own party should be aware of this stuff as well.”

Does this mean the FBI is investigating whether Russian intelligence has attempted to develop a secret relationship with Trump or cultivate him as an asset? Was the former intelligence officer and his material deemed credible or not? An FBI spokeswoman says, “Normally, we don’t talk about whether we are investigating anything.” But a senior US government official not involved in this case but familiar with the former spy tells Mother Jones that he has been a credible source with a proven record of providing reliable, sensitive, and important information to the US government.

In June, the former Western intelligence officer—who spent almost two decades on Russian intelligence matters and who now works with a US firm that gathers information on Russia for corporate clients—was assigned the task of researching Trump’s dealings in Russia and elsewhere, according to the former spy and his associates in this American firm. This was for an opposition research project originally financed by a Republican client critical of the celebrity mogul. (Before the former spy was retained, the project’s financing switched to a client allied with Democrats.) “It started off as a fairly general inquiry,” says the former spook, who asks not to be identified. But when he dug into Trump, he notes, he came across troubling information indicating connections between Trump and the Russian government. According to his sources, he says, “there was an established exchange of information between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin of mutual benefit.”

This was, the former spy remarks, “an extraordinary situation.” He regularly consults with US government agencies on Russian matters, and near the start of July on his own initiative—without the permission of the US company that hired him—he sent a report he had written for that firm to a contact at the FBI, according to the former intelligence officer and his American associates, who asked not to be identified. (He declines to identify the FBI contact.) The former spy says he concluded that the information he had collected on Trump was “sufficiently serious” to share with the FBI.

Mother Jones has reviewed that report and other memos this former spy wrote. The first memo, based on the former intelligence officer’s conversations with Russian sources, noted, “Russian regime has been cultivating, supporting and assisting TRUMP for at least 5 years. Aim, endorsed by PUTIN, has been to encourage splits and divisions in western alliance.” It maintained that Trump “and his inner circle have accepted a regular flow of intelligence from the Kremlin, including on his Democratic and other political rivals.” It claimed that Russian intelligence had “compromised” Trump during his visits to Moscow and could “blackmail him.” It also reported that Russian intelligence had compiled a dossier on Hillary Clinton based on “bugged conversations she had on various visits to Russia and intercepted phone calls.”

The former intelligence officer says the response from the FBI was “shock and horror.” The FBI, after receiving the first memo, did not immediately request additional material, according to the former intelligence officer and his American associates. Yet in August, they say, the FBI asked him for all information in his possession and for him to explain how the material had been gathered and to identify his sources. The former spy forwarded to the bureau several memos—some of which referred to members of Trump’s inner circle. After that point, he continued to share information with the FBI. “It’s quite clear there was or is a pretty substantial inquiry going on,” he says.”

U.S. Spies: Following The Narrative I Said They Would One Month Ago

just after midnite GMT-5 1/13/17

Recall precisely one month ago when I said this?

First, trot out some CIA shills to say that Russia was meddling in the affairs of America.  Unnamed people, saying things using unnamed sources, of course.  Next, claim that any porn or CP found on computers is a Russian plant.  Next, quickly and silently pass the Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act.  Next, trot out Senator John McCain to say that he cannot believe that Trump doesn’t believe all of this.

Today, we learned this.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told a Senate committee hearing that he wouldn’t be surprised if Russian hackers put child pornography on US computers.

The only step I missed was the one on the ridiculous claims about Trump in Prague.  That way, the intel community can say, “See, even you’ve been affected by that horrible Vlad dude who did nefarious things to your reputation.  They did it to us too!”

They’re so damned predictable they don’t even make this difficult for me.

Obama Expands Surveillance Powers on His Way Out

January 13th, 2017 by Kevin

Via: Electronic Frontier Foundation:

With mere days left before President-elect Donald Trump takes the White House, President Barack Obama’s administration just finalized rules to make it easier for the nation’s intelligence agencies to share unfiltered information about innocent people.

New rules issued by the Obama administration under Executive Order 12333 will let the NSA—which collects information under that authority with little oversight, transparency, or concern for privacy—share the raw streams of communications it intercepts directly with agencies including the FBI, the DEA, and the Department of Homeland Security, according to a report today by the New York Times.

Is There an Echo in Here?

By now, between the ads and the news, everyone’s heard of Amazon Echo, right? People are raising their eyebrows over the thought that what Echo hears may echo through the court room some day when, shortly after your unit is installed, you raise your voice at the nincompoops on the boob tube and you threatened in loud, brash terms to “kill that sob!”

Some stand ready to help you make a home-brewed kill-switch.

Some talk about surveillance tools for the next generation to which kids will become acclimated.

Google is a competitor in the home droid industry..

You have the world’s two largest computer systems connected to the national intelligence apparatus recording what goes on in your house.

Other competitors are emerging from tech giants Samsung, the home appliance company LG, Apple, Ivee and others.

Facebook, another surveillant titan, is working to corner the governmentally-approved news market.

I think, instead of fashioning a kill switch (which the state will simply and easily circumvent anyway), there is a better plan.  Much of this recording is probably being fed into large governmental or governmentally-funded banks of large computers. We know that, out at Purdue University in Indiana, the state from which Trump has picked many of his key administration figures, has, through SEAS, run simulations of information warfare “funded by the Department of Defense, several Fortune 500 companies, the National Science Foundation, the Century Fund of the state of Indiana, and the Office of Naval Research].”

“In 2004 SEAS was evaluated for its ability to help simulate “the non-kinetic aspects of combat, things like the diplomatic, economic, political, infrastructure and social issues”.

Sentient World Simulation is the name given to the current vision of making SEAS a “continuously running, continually updated mirror model of the real world that can be used to predict and evaluate future events and courses of action.”

Did you know that, increasingly, everything you do, buy, say, write or perhaps soon even think is part of this hive of ants?

I would suggest that everyone should acquire one or more of these devices, within the easy reach of your budget, and turn them on and leave them on.  Turn on as many computers, androids and other devices as you can and have as many of them as possible logged into Facebook, tuned into ABC-TV, and playing selected YouTube videos. Make sure the microphones are on, the volumes are turned up, the voice reocgnition elements are maxxed out.  You may want to  tinker a bit with placement of devices, mikes and playback in order to maximize audio clarity and crispness.  There is room for some creative use of pre-recorded inquiries running on a loop or even cued by an algorithmic loop.

Let the feedback loops you’ve created by letting the surveillance system record its own fake news and propaganda programming turn itself into a giant Moebius knot of Tavistockian frenzy.

Retired Marine Gen. James Mattis on Thursday cruised through his confirmation hearing despite senators’ attempts to draw him out in areas where he might disagree with President-elect Donald Trump.

Perhaps in a sign of how smoothly the hearing went, a handful of anti-war Code Pink members, who typically protest at the committee’s hearings, stayed silent throughout, only holding up peace signs with their hands and clapping at times.

Many of lawmakers’ questions focused on getting Mattis to break with Trump on the record, particularly on Russia.

Mattis obliged, calling Russia the “principal threat” to U.S. security.

music: (77 minutes)

Trump has said he wants to improve relations with Moscow and complimented Russian President Vladimir Putin as a strong leader. He’s also dismissed the U.S. intelligence community’s assessment that Russia interfered in the election by hacking Democratic Party systems, treating the assessment as an attack on his legitimacy.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), chairman of the committee, set the tone right away, saying in his opening statement that “Putin wants to be our enemy” and that Putin has left “a trail of death and destruction in his wake.”

McCain highlighted past presidents’ failed attempts to engage Putin and asked whether Mattis thinks the U.S. should learn from that.

“History is not a straight jacket, but I’ve never found a better guide,” Mattis responded, adding that there is a “relatively short list of successes” in bettering relations with Russia.

Mattis also broke with Trump on NATO, calling it the “most successful military alliance probably in modern world history, maybe ever.”

Trump had blasted NATO as obsolete on the campaign trail, saying it needed to do more to fight terrorism. He’s also questioned whether he would come to the defense of allies that are attacked if they haven’t met their defense funding goals.

The Hill’s Kristina Wong and Rebecca Kheel have more here.

LGBT groups also said they were “heartened” by Mattis’s testimony. Read more on that here.

SENATE APPROVES MATTIS WAIVER: It was a good day for the retired general.

Shortly after his hearing, the Senate Armed Services Committee easily passed a waiver exempting Mattis from a law that requires Defense secretaries to be retired from military service for at least seven years.

Mattis retired from the military in 2013. The law has been waived once before, for George Marshall in 1950.

The vote was 24-3, with Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), and Richard Blumenthal (Conn.), a Marine veteran, voting in opposition.

Later in the afternoon, it went to the full Senate floor where senators voted 81-17 to approve the waiver.

Read more on the vote here, from The Hill’s Jordain Carney.

The full House is expected to vote on the waiver on Friday, after that chamber’s Armed Services Committee approved it in a party-line 34-28 vote.

That approval came despite anger from both the GOP chairman and Democratic members that President-elect Donald Trump did not allow Mattis to testify about the waiver.

Mattis had been scheduled to testify Thursday about civilian control of the military, but the House committee canceled the hearing Wednesday after being told by the Trump team that Mattis would not testify.

“Let me be clear: Gen. Mattis was willing and eager to do so,” Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) said Thursday. “I talked to him personally. He gladly agreed to come answer our questions about the waiver or other topics. On Tuesday night of this week, however, I was informed that the president-elect’s transition team would not allow Mattis to testify after all. I think that is a mistake.”

The Hill’s Rebecca Kheel has full the story here.

Also, Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-Wash.) in a letter urged House Dems to vote no on the waiver. Rebecca has more here.

TRUMP’S CIA PICK BREAKS WITH HIM ON RUSSIA: Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) at his confirmation hearing Thursday sought to reassure lawmakers that he would be an independent voice for the intelligence community as head of the CIA under President-elect Donald Trump.

In one notable break with Trump, Pompeo unequivocally backed the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia interfered in the presidential election, calling their findings “sound.”

“With respect to this report in particular, it’s pretty clear about what took place here, about Russian involvement in efforts to hack information and to have an impact on American democracy,” he told the Senate Intelligence Committee. “This was an aggressive action taken by senior leadership inside of Russia.”

But the CIA nominee also swatted down some criticism of Trump, pushing back on senators who suggested the president-elect’s rhetoric is damaging morale at intelligence agencies.

The Hill’s Katie Bo Williams has more here.

Pompeo also said he would “absolutely not” obey an order from Trump to torture a suspect. For more on that, click here.

The US Department of Justice is launching a review of how the FBI handled the inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, and whether public disclosures of the investigation cost Clinton the presidential election, as many have claimed.

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced the investigation on Thursday, saying it comes, “in response to requests from numerous Chairmen and Ranking Members of Congressional oversight committees, various organizations, and members of the public.”

The review will examine if FBI Director James Comey violated established procedures when he discussed the Bureau’s findings at a press conference in July 2016, and when he sent Congress a letter about renewing the investigation in October, shortly before the election.

Democrats have blamed the October disclosure on Clinton’s narrow loss to Republican Donald Trump in several key battleground states.

Horowitz will also look into a number of DOJ and FBI employees who are accused of leaking information to the public, including Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs, Peter J. Kadzik, who reportedly disclosed non-public information to the Clinton campaign.

The inspector-general will be reviewing “allegations that the Department or FBI policies or procedures were not followed in connection with, or in actions leading up to or related to, the FBI director’s public announcement on July 5, 2016, and the director’s letter to Congress on October 28 and November 6, 2016, and that certain underlying investigative decisions were based on improper considerations.”

Comey made the unprecedented step of calling a press conference on Monday after the Independence Day holiday weekend to announce that “no reasonable prosecutor” would bring criminal charges against Clinton in the email investigation. While he criticized the security culture of the State Department under Clinton, Comey said there was “no intentional misconduct,” in using a private server.

Outraged Republicans summoned Comey to Capitol Hill to explain himself, with Democrats standing up to protect the FBI director.

That changed on October 28, when Comey sent a letter to Congress informing them the Bureau was investigating additional evidence – which redacted disclosures later revealed was connected to the computer belonging to disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner, husband of Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

By November 6, the FBI had once again concluded that no criminal charges were warranted, and sent a follow-up letter notifying Congress of that.

Two days later, Clinton lost the Electoral College vote to Trump, despite being considered an overwhelming favorite by the media. Democrats have since blamed her loss on Comey’s October letter, as well as claims – backed by the FBI, CIA and the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper – that Russia “influenced” the US election through hacking and releasing the Democrats’ internal documents via WikiLeaks. Moscow and WikiLeaks have dismissed the alllegations as bogus.

Facebook: Building 8

January 12th, 2017 by Kevin

Wikipedia: Transcranial Pulsed Ultrasound:

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is undergoing research to develop a helmet that could control the minds of soldiers through the use of TPU. It would have the potential to control a soldier’s stress and anxiety levels with the click of a remote controlled button.[5] Sound waves would target specific areas of the brain to stimulate activity in regions only a few cubic millimeters in size. This would allow them to target very specific areas of the brain with great accuracy and without inflicting damage to its surroundings. A prototype of this device is currently being worked upon to better the ability and potential of soldiers.

Via: Inverse:

Facebook has some big plans for the future of social networking. A series of job postings discovered Thursday suggest the company wants to use non-invasive techniques to measure users’ brain waves, with artificial intelligence decoding the data. The listings are all for the company’s Building 8 lab, a secretive organization headed by the former head of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

One listing seeks a brain-computer interface engineer for a two-year project in the lab focused on advanced brain technologies. The candidate will be responsible for the “application of machine learning methods, including encoding and decoding models, to neuroimaging and electrophysiological data.” In other words, Facebook wants to apply artificial intelligence to brain scan data.

Another listing, for a neural imaging engineer, sheds some light on how Facebook might actually scan people’s brains. The company wants someone to design methods based around “optical, RF, ultrasound, or other entirely non-invasive approaches.”

Why Smart People Don’t Multitask

January 12th, 2017 by Kevin

Via: Daily Mail:

You may have heard that multitasking is bad for you, but studies show that it kills your performance and may even damage your brain. Every time you multitask you aren’t just harming your performance in the moment; you may very well be damaging an area of your brain that’s critical to your future success at work.

[Ed.: For more on this subject, grab a thermos full of coffee and wander over here:, “a free downloadable-by-chapter e-book I’ve entitled “Summon The Magic: How to Be a Better Athlete (or anything else you want to be).”

In PDF format, it will contain the intro, a complete expanded table of contents, a “mind map” of the content (and its explanation), a folder full of various focused short topical bits including a series of “mind mints” (like fortune cookie strips for the mind, body and spirit), numerous posters, and the complete book (the chapters are called tabs, from the original three-ring binder format) from A to S.

While the focus is on athletics, it is also immediately applicable to music or other artistic performance, as well as other pursuits. Tab S covers this, as does earlier chapters. There is a complete bibliography. Almost everything is footnoted as to its source. Some parts of the material were written by me. The material is all either direct quotes from the annotated source, or paraphrased and blended from two or more sources, or synthesized from several. I was after text that kids would read and which would appeal and work and which would get them to read more… to find that source book and engage it.

The book cites the idea of “mind sprints” but hopefully makes it all an enjoyable exercise in the development of mind, body and spirit. I hope that you will spend some time getting to look into this material and that you share it with others who can help you determine its value and use….]

Taiwan Scrambles Jets, Navy as China Aircraft Carrier Enters Taiwan Strait

January 11th, 2017 by Kevin

Via: Reuters:

Taiwan scrambled jets and navy ships on Wednesday as a group of Chinese warships, led by its sole aircraft carrier, sailed through the Taiwan Strait, the latest sign of heightened tension between Beijing and the self-ruled island.

China’s Soviet-built Liaoning aircraft carrier, returning from exercises in the South China Sea, was not encroaching in Taiwan’s territorial waters but entered its air defense identification zone in the southwest, Taiwan’s defense ministry said.

As a result, Taiwan scrambled jets and navy ships to “surveil and control” the passage of the Chinese ships north through the body of water separating Taiwan and China, Taiwan defense ministry spokesman Chen Chung-chi said.

Taiwan military aircraft and ships have been deployed to follow the carrier group, which is sailing up the west side of the median line of the strait, he said.

The Narrative, exploding

4Chan Claims To Have Fabricated Anti-Trump Report As A Hoax”.  “Archived Posts Prove 4Chan Trolled CIA With Trump Golden Shower Story – Entire Russian Hack Narrative Imploding?”  Another nail in the coffin of ‘journalism’.  4Chan is better at it than BuzzFeed or CNN.  By the way, intended or not, this has the effect of rendering laughable any discussion of possible Trump corruption involving Russian money.

Why Crowdstrike’s Russian Hacking Story Fell Apart 2 The DNI Report Faked Sources” (Steve Emerson and Rita Katz!!!):

“The only 2 groups that are known to possess X-Agent are Crowdstrike and the Ukrainian hacker RUH8.  The DNI report relies on both to hold their facts together. Both are discredited. The following admission should interest John Podesta.

According to a RFE/RL interview, “RUH8 says the Cyber Alliance uses “all tools and methods” at its disposal to hack into their perceived foes’ accounts. In particular, he says, spear-phishing — using messages that mimic those of legitimate companies along with a request and link to change personal security information — “is quite efficient. People readily give up their passwords and personal info,” he says. “They receive something in their [e-]mail like, ‘Your account will be suspended if you don’t confirm [your security details].’ They click that link and we have them.”

Is it me or has RUH8 done everything except openly confess to hacking Podesta? Spear-fishing is the tactic said to be used in the DNC hacking. Only 2 known groups have the X-Agent and only RUH8 states openly that they changed the course of world geopolitics. Neither of them has been investigated. Security analysts are starting to speculate that if there was a hack, the Ukrainians probably did it. The self-identifying Pravy Sektor members RUH8 are also claiming to have hacked the Russian government email. When the facts are considered, RUH8 may have done a hack to cover up the Craig Murray leak.

The FBI now in charge of domestic intelligence didn’t investigate anything. All the evidence to prove a Russian hack has been shown clearly to be flawed and faked. Crowdstrike is guilty of at least perjury based on their own statements and the evidence they gave to the FBI. The DNI and 17 Intel agencies are relying on neo-nazi group hackers that openly mock them.

This only leaves only one scenario that has an unblemished track record. Julian Assange and Craig Murray told the truth. The emails were leaked.”

While hardly surprising considering the copious amounts of bad blood between the President elect and John McCain, earlier today the Arizona senator confirmed that he passed along the 35-page report to the FBI that details unverified allegations that President-elect Trump’s team coordinated with the Russian government to defeat Hillary Clinton. In a statement released Wednesday, McCain said passing the report along was the extent of his involvement in the process. SOURCE: ZERO HEDGE

“… This is the faction that is now engaged in open warfare against the duly elected and already widely disliked president-elect, Donald Trump. They are using classic Cold War dirty tactics and the defining ingredients of what has until recently been denounced as “Fake News.”

Their most valuable instrument is the U.S. media, much of which reflexively reveres, serves, believes, and sides with hidden intelligence officials. And Democrats, still reeling from their unexpected and traumatic election loss as well as a systemic collapse of their party, seemingly divorced further and further from reason with each passing day, are willing — eager — to embrace any claim, cheer any tactic, align with any villain, regardless of how unsupported, tawdry and damaging those behaviors might be…..”

“… a long war against well-armed great powers would be very different. Sophisticated cyber and electronic warfare attacks would precede large salvos of smart weapons, “an unprecedented blending of mass and precision,” he said. Instead of the steady movement of front lines that gave America time to mobilize in World War II, fighting would leap like a wildfire over a firebreak, from one theater into another. Instead of World War II-era censorship or even Vietnam-era nightly newscasts, he said, leaks, propaganda, and fake news would pour over the Internet, “a torrent of real and false information transmitted in near real-time,” to attack the American people’s will to fight.

“… We know the original authors who created to trap the MSM. McCain stupidly fell for it also. And the FBI and CIA fed it to CNN.

We have the whole history of it, the handmaidens and the purposes.

The conspiracy has yet to face the reaction and counter-punch. But if you understand Trump and the will of the Movement, a stiff penalty will be paid.

CNN is now the paramount of FakeNews. Totally a fraudulent operation.

CIA is corrupt throughout its entire management tiers.

FBI is corrupt at the top tiers.

McCain is a very sick sociopath, self-identified as a traitor, first in Viet Nam, now in this action.”

Trump calling CNN “fake news” live, on the record, squares the circle. The coup failed – ignominiously.

Revealed: FBI RETURNED Ft. Authorities don’t know why he chose his target and have not ruled out terrorism…It has also been revealed that FBI agents took Santiago’s gun off him when he went into an Alaska field office in November to say the U.S. government was controlling his mind. But it was returned to him just a month later, and law enforcement will not reveal why. Sources told CNN he used the same weapon in the airport attack.

When the CIA’s Putin-Trump lies don’t convince the hotbed of liberalism, The New York Review of Books . . . :  “Russia, Trump & Flawed Intelligence”:

“Despite its brevity, the report makes many repetitive statements remarkable for their misplaced modifiers, mangled assertions, and missing words. This is not just bad English: this is muddled thinking and vague or entirely absent argument. Take, for example, this phrase: “Moscow most likely chose WikiLeaks because of its self-proclaimed reputation for authenticity.” I think, though I cannot be sure, that the authors of the report are speculating that Moscow gave the products of its hacking operation to WikiLeaks because WikiLeaks is known as a reliable source. The next line, however, makes this speculation unnecessary: “Disclosures through WikiLeaks did not contain any evident forgeries.”

Or consider this: “Putin most likely wanted to discredit Secretary Clinton because he has publicly blamed her since 2011 for inciting mass protests against his regime in late 2011 and early 2012, and because he holds a grudge for comments he almost certainly saw as disparaging him.” Did Putin’s desire to discredit Clinton stem from his own public statements, or are the intelligence agencies basing their appraisal of Putin’s motives on his public statements? Logic suggests the latter, but grammar indicates the former. The fog is not coincidental: if the report’s vague assertions were clarified and its circular logic straightened out, nothing would be left.”

Obama Post Mortem

“What unites all of Obama’s qualities is a tendency toward high-minded superiority, a knowing aloofness and self-regard. These are traits more common in a world-class professor at an elite university than in a president. And it is this characteristic that has caused him his greatest problems as head of the executive branch — and inadvertently contributed to the rise and implausible triumph of his political bête noire” [The Week]. As a neoliberal and a political moderate, it pains me to admit that Obama’s most fateful mistake may well have been his cautious, level-headed response to the financial crisis…. Had I been in charge, I almost certainly would have done exactly what Obama did. … But the result was a massive injustice. Americans learned the lesson that if you’re a middle-class homeowner and things go wrong, you’re screwed, while if you’re wealthy (and even if your actions created the problem in the first place), Uncle Sam will come riding to the rescue. Trump and Bernie Sanders each tapped into this resentment in his own way, expressing, channeling, and purging the anger that the president never adequately acknowledged or legitimized. In that respect, Obama’s professorially cerebral and even-tempered response to the crisis helped to prepare the way for the anti-establishment, populist wave that has now capsized his party and the legacy of his own presidency.” Karma. We are paying, eight years later, for the Democrat debacle on 2009-2010. And that applies just as forcefully to health care.

“President Obama plans to offer a graceful goodbye to the nation in a prime-time address Tuesday night from Chicago, transferring executive power with the same tone of hope and optimism that powered his rise to the presidency” [Los Angeles Times]. “His farewell address will touch only marginally on his record…” Ouch!

The New McCarthyism

“Russia, Trump & Flawed Intelligence” [Masha Gessen, New York Review of Books]. “On Friday, when the report appeared, the major newspapers came out with virtually identical headlines highlighting the agencies’ finding that Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered an “influence campaign” to help Donald Trump win the presidency—a finding the agencies say they hold ‘with high confidence.’ A close reading of the report shows that it barely supports such a conclusion. Indeed, it barely supports any conclusion.” And: “That is the entirety of the evidence the report offers to support its estimation of Putin’s motives for allegedly working to elect Trump: conjecture based on other politicians in other periods, on other continents—and also on misreported or mistranslated public statements.” A massive takedown, from the heart of the Manhattan intelligentsia.

Trump Transition

“While the skirmishes and scheming will take place in whispered conferences in rooms all around downtown Washington, D.C., what comes to mind is an image of armies, swords drawn, unleashing a war cry and launching headlong into a battle of all against all. This all starts the day after the inauguration. You can almost hear the horses stomping” [Vanity Fair]. That seems about right. And there are more sides than two. Or even three.

“It’s Really Hard To Block A Cabinet Nominee” [FiveThirtyEight]. “From 1977 to 2013, the last six incoming presidents — Jimmy Carter through Barack Obama — made 109 appointments to Cabinet-level positions.1 Just six failed: Five nominees withdrew, and one was voted down by the Senate. The Senate confirmed 103 during the same span, 93 of whom were unanimously approved or not seriously contested. Ten were confirmed in contested votes.”

“Electing Donald Trump was the voters’ way of flipping the bird to Washington and politicians. So it was only appropriate that the president-elect gave the middle finger to GOP House members, tweeting at 10:02 Tuesday morning: ‘With all that Congress has to work on, do they really have to make the weakening of the Independent Ethics Watchdog, as unfair as it,’ followed five minutes later by ‘……..may be, their number one act and priority. Focus on tax reform, healthcare and so many other things of far greater importance!’” [Cook Political Report]. “Within two hours of the first tweet, an emergency meeting of the conference was convened to strip out the offending provision before it was voted on by the House as a whole. Here was a case of Trump stopping House Republicans from stepping on a political landmine, preventing an embarrassment from becoming hundreds of Democratic television ads next year. Whether Trump opposed the OCE change or just thought the timing was particularly inopportune doesn’t matter much. More importantly, Ryan and McCarthy among others can say, ‘I told you so,’ theoretically giving them a little more leverage the next time the rank-and-file boneheads come up with a clunker like this one.” That “within two hours” is the power of The Twitter; Trump whipped them back into their kennels like the curs they are. Anybody who thinks Trump will — or, if motivated by Trump’s interest , should — give up Twitter is delusional.

“Aaron Swartz’s Theory on How to Save the World” [Justin Peters, Medium]. “the revolution will be A/B tested, and maybe even A/B/C/D and E tested, too. In his working paper, Swartz described his new plan for the future of activism. Rather than form a political action group focused on one single issue or tactic, Swartz proposed that organizers should assemble groups of people supremely competent in certain relevant disciplines — investigators, activists, lawyers, lobbyists, policy experts, political strategists, journalists, and publicists — who could combine their efforts and advocate effectively for any issue, big or small. Swartz envisioned a flexible, intelligent, multifaceted task force that would learn from its mistakes and refine its tactics accordingly: a team of specialists that, cumulatively, worked as generalists.”

Pentagon Successfully Tests Micro-Drone Swarm

January 10th, 2017 by Kevin

Via: Physorg:

The Pentagon may soon be unleashing a 21st-century version of locusts on its adversaries after officials on Monday said it had successfully tested a swarm of 103 micro-drones.

The important step in the development of new autonomous weapon systems was made possible by improvements in artificial intelligence, holding open the possibility that groups of small robots could act together under human direction.

Military strategists have high hopes for such drone swarms that would be cheap to produce and able to overwhelm opponents’ defenses with their great numbers.

The test of the world’s largest micro-drone swarm in California in October included 103 Perdix micro-drones measuring around six inches (16 centimeters) launched from three F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets, the Pentagon said in a statement.

“The micro-drones demonstrated advanced swarm behaviors such as collective decision-making, adaptive formation flying and self-healing,” it said.

“Perdix are not pre-programmed synchronized individuals, they are a collective organism, sharing one distributed brain for decision-making and adapting to each other like swarms in nature,” said William Roper, director of the Pentagon’s Strategic Capabilities Office. “Because every Perdix communicates and collaborates with every other Perdix, the swarm has no leader and can gracefully adapt to drones entering or exiting the team.”

January 10-11, 2017 — Soros cementing control over Europe’s left

What is advertised as “Left” in Europe is likely controlled by George Soros.

Day 78 of “Where is Eric Braverman?”

Parts II and III

[Matthew Long’s very long look at six cases]

Just days after we reported that the US had begun deploying some 2,800 tanks, trucks and other military equipment to Germany, from where they would be transported by rail and road to Eastern Europe as part of a buildup of NATO reinforcements against “Russian expansion”, the next US deployment has made its way to Europe over the weekend, when some 4,000 US troops arrived in the German port of Bremerheven, on their way to Wroclaw, Poland under a planned NATO operation to “reassure the alliance’s Eastern European allies” in the face of what NATO has dubbed mounting Russian aggression.

The American soldiers landed in Wroclaw, home to a key Nato and Polish air base in south-west Poland. The troops will be followed by the roughly 2,800 tanks and other pieces of military equipment which are currently en route from Germany.

The delivery of US Abrams tanks, Paladin artillery, and Bradley fighting vehicles, as well as supporting troops, marks a new phase of America’s continuous presence in Europe, which will now be based on a nine-month rotation.

Why provoke Russia with yet another mass deployment? Because as NATO Major General Timothy McGuire told reporters, last week, when asked if the large deployment was meant to send a message to Russia, “The best way to maintain the peace is through preparation.” And while we are quoting, here is another good line from the movie Spice Like Us: “A weapon unused is a useless weapon.” The US military industrial complex is doing everything in its power to make sure a lot of weapons are used in the future. As the acceleration of automated technology continues to transform the economy by outsourcing humans to robots, the military continues along the same path. It is a path that was formally laid out as early as 2007 when the Defense Department released its Unmanned Systems Roadmap 2007-2032 (PDF) and followed up with a Roadmap 2013-2038 (PDF). Since that time, we have seen many developments and signposts indicating that autonomous weapons across air, land, and sea will become the foundation for the future of war. The Pentagon has become interested in a new technology called ALIAS, developed by DARPA, which they believe will make it much easier and cheaper to produce drones in the battlespace. Rather than develop autonomous craft from the ground up, ALIAS is a kit which essentially removes a human pilot and inserts a robotic control mechanism that “quickly connects to an aircraft’s existing mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic systems.” It is a technology that is now progressing from Phase 2 to Phase 3 with a partnership between DARPA and Lockheed Martin company, Sikorsky. On the heels of Czech President Milos Zeman’s warnings of a possible “super-Holocaust” carried out by Muslim terrorists, urging citizens to arm themselves, WaPo reports the country’s interior ministry is pushing a constitutional change that would let citizens use guns against terrorists if police are delayed or unable to make their way to the scene of an attack. Czech president Milos Zeman had previously proposed that economic migrants should be deported from Europe to “uninhabited Greek islands” or to “empty places” in North Africa. The spectacularly incredible president also proposed that the Greek debt should be progressively reduced in return for shouldering the cost of hosting hundreds of thousands economic migrants. Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind.

He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm, and with whom he has no quarrel.

And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands, and works for the universal brotherhood of man with his mouth.

Leaked Sec Kerry Audio that CNN & NY Times Tried to Hide — Confirms US Role in Rise of ISIS”:

“Highlighting exactly why WikiLeaks is the gold standard of journalism, both the NY Times and CNN chose to only report on certain aspects of the recording and omitting the most damning comments made by Kerry. Essentially, they attempted to hide from public view the statements that would allow Americans to understand what has actually taken place in Syria – a regime change operation.

The NY Times never published the full audio, only publishing selected snippets, and CNN removed the audio altogether, with an editor’s note stating that they took down the audio recording at the request of some of the participants out of concern for their personal safety.

During the conversation, John Kerry admitted that he pushed for intervention in Syria, but eventually lost the argument.

‘“I lost the argument for use of force in Syria,” John Kerry told the members of the Syrian Opposition.

“The audio gives a glimpse into what goes on outside official meetings. Note that it represents the US narrative and not necessarily the entire true narrative,” according to WikiLeaks.

The leaked recording confirms three clear and important facts that thoroughly destroy the official U.S. stance on Syria the past 5 years, and highlights the convoluted U.S. support of Islamist insurgents in Syria. These facts are likely the reason for this story being buried by the mainstream media.

1. Secretary of State John Kerry admits and outlines the Obama administration’s primary goal in Syria was regime change and the removal of Bahar al-Assad.

2. In order to accomplish the primary goal of regime change, the White House allowed the rise of ISIS. The administration hoped that ISIS’ growing power in Syria would force Syrian President Bashir Assad into a diplomatic solution, on U.S. terms, forcing him to cede power.

3. As a means of accomplishing these two objectives, the U.S. intentionally armed ISIS and even, arguably, attacked a Syrian government military convoy to stop a strategic attack upon the Islamic extremists killing 80 Syrian soldiers.”

Nation With Crumbling Bridges And Roads Excited To Build Giant Wall”:

“Harland Dorrinson, the executive director of a Washington-based think tank called the Center for Responsible Immigration, believes that most Americans favor the building of border walls over extravagant pet projects like structurally sound freeway overpasses.

“The estimated cost of a border wall with Mexico is five billion dollars,” he said. “We could easily blow the same amount of money on infrastructure repairs and have nothing to show for it but functioning highways.”

Congress has dragged its feet on infrastructure spending in recent years, but Dorrinson senses growing support in Washington for building a giant border wall. “Even if for some reason we don’t get the Mexicans to pay for it, five billion is a steal,” he said.

While some think that America’s declining infrastructure is a national-security threat, Dorrinson strongly disagrees. “If immigrants somehow get over the wall, the condition of our bridges and roads will keep them from getting very far,” he said.”

“In passing, allow me to destroy quickly the “we have smoking gun evidence but it’s too secret to show you” argument. Given the Snowden revelations and the whistleblowing of the former NSA Technical Director Bill Binney, for the US government to claim to be hiding the fact that it can tack all electronic traffic in the USA is risible. This is like saying we can’t give you the evidence in case the Russians find out the sky is blue. If there were hacks, the NSA could identify the precise hack transmitting the precise information out of Washington. Everybody knows that. There were no hacks so there is no evidence. End of argument. They are internal leaks.”

From October:  “Israeli embassy embraces extremists to save flagging brand”:

“Embassy official Rony Yedidia-Clein, who said she was “delighted” to be at the event, introduced Ohana with remarks of her own, and spent the rest of the event contributing answers and comments in response to audience questions.

Yedidia-Clein gave the impression of an embassy that has its work cut out, bemoaning the fact that “today it’s become almost a badge of honour for someone to call themselves an anti-Zionist, and a term of shame for someone to call themselves a Zionist.”

According to the diplomat, the embassy has been working to establish local “friends of Israel” groups, and she praised the work of “people in the room” who have “helped…us at the embassy” to set up 40 such organisations in the past two years, citing Inverness (see here) and Jersey (see here).”

Assange’s anarcho-conspiracy theory.  The reaction of the conspirators to leaks is to close down their communications structures which are vitally necessary for the conspirators to operate.  One problem with this is exemplified in the American election itself, where Assange fatally messed up the Democratic Party (it would be interesting to know if the failed technical campaign by the Democrats was in part due to terror at leaks), an act which just allowed another better-armed group of conspirators to prevail.

The Democrats’ Conspiracy Theory”.

Allegations Against Russia Less Credible Every Day”:

“Supposedly the evidence has been made public and is overwhelming, but try to find it and you’ll come up dry. Ask why, and you’ll be told that of course the evidence cannot be made public as that would risk revealing how the U.S. government came upon the information. Yet the same government feeds the U.S. media with the story that it intercepted communications of top Russian officials just after the U.S. election celebrating Trump’s victory. Did that story not run that risk? The U.S. government feeds the U.S. media (specifically the “free” press of the Washington Post whose owner makes more money from the CIA than from the Washington Post) that Russia has hacked Vermont’s electrical supply, and — because this was a claim that could be checked by an independent party — the secret methods of the CIA quickly turned out to be these: they had simply made the thing up.”

US Report Still Lacks Proof on Russia ‘Hack’” (Parry; conclusive argument I’d say, with the CIA giving Putin credit for predicting a certain Trump win when nobody else did):

“. . . while it is true that many Russian officials, including President Putin, considered Clinton to be a threat to worsen the already frayed relationship between the two nuclear superpowers, the report ignores the downside for Russia trying to interfere with the U.S. election campaign and then failing to stop Clinton, which looked like the most likely outcome until Election Night.

If Russia had accessed the DNC and Podesta emails and slipped them to WikiLeaks for publication, Putin would have to think that the National Security Agency, with its exceptional ability to track electronic communications around the world, might well have detected the maneuver and would have informed Clinton.

So, on top of Clinton’s well-known hawkishness, Putin would have risked handing the expected incoming president a personal reason to take revenge on him and his country. Historically, Russia has been very circumspect in such situations, usually holding its intelligence collections for internal purposes only, not sharing them with the public.

While it is conceivable that Putin decided to take this extraordinary risk in this case – despite the widely held view that Clinton was a shoo-in to defeat Trump – an objective report would have examined this counter argument for him not doing so.”

American Unintelligence on Russia (Op-ed)”.  The CIA had such a weak case they had to put the RT stuff in to back it up, but the RT stuff is just silly drivel.

The Big Lie on Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent US Elections”:

“And how was Russia going to undermine “Public Faith” in our democratic process? By stealing emails that exposed the true behind the scenes political scheming and machinations by the DNC and Hillary’s campaign. Nothing destroys ones faith in our “democratic” process more quickly than learning that Debbie Wasserman Schultz tried to rig the primaries against Bernie Sanders. In other words, those crafty Rooskies were going to flood America with truth.”

UK intelligence gave US key tipoff about Russian hacking, report says”.  You’ll remember the intelligence technique used in the lies which led to the Iraq war whereby the ‘intelligence’ is burnished by feeding it through another country, thus giving your own lies the appearance of verification by a disinterested third party (Niger yellowcake).  This ‘outside’ information also makes it easier to stovepipe it, i.e., feed it directly into the political system without the usual intelligence expert vetting for credibility:  “The Stovepipe”.

Et tu, Jacobin?

The United States does not want the Syrian opposition to acquire anti-aircraft missiles or MANPADS whereas some Western countries and the Gulf would like to send those weapons. But the opposition is forming these demands for no-fly zones because of the US embargo preventing such weapons from entering Syria. If the opposition really had those type of weapons, the no-fly zone would not be necessary because people would be able to defend themselves and strike back if the Syrian jets or the Russian jets are bombing their cities and villages. Gender Identity Confusion  Goes National

[Ed.: The 400 comments will demonstrate the degree of progress; in my estimation, the 9/11 truth movement has pretty much effectively been stuffed into a box, packed away in the attic of global change and understanding, and forgotten.]

Law enforcement has a number of informants working for it and the companies that already pay their paychecks, like UPS, for example. It also has a number of government employees working for the TSA, keeping their eyes peeled for “suspicious” amounts of cash it can swoop in and seize. Unsurprisingly, the FBI also has a number of paid informants. Some of these informants apparently work at Best Buy — Geek Squad by day, government informants by… well, also by day. One of the things Donald Trump has really done correctly is to assess his future arena in the areas of intelligence-gathering and operational security. Trump wants to return to a “courier” method of transmitting sensitive information and classified documents for the purpose of reducing the amount of material that can be hacked or stolen. There is a subtlety about this for a caveat, in case the compliment has bloomed flowers in your thoughts: the NSA $50 billion facility for collection and storage of data in Utah won’t be shutting down anytime soon. As Snowden’s exposés clearly pointed out, the government has clearly followed Petraeus’ glowing “internet of things” yellow brick road to form an integrated, interconnected surveillance state. All CCTV (closed circuit television) systems, all merchants with cameras, all law enforcement cameras…all of the camera surveillance systems everywhere are either tied into data collection immediately or can be accessed for use at a later time. BY JEREMIAH JOHNSON

An excerpt:

“… Here are a few other pieces worth reading over regarding the government’s total information awareness and the (ongoing) growth of the surveillance state:

Prison Planet: Diagram: The NSA Unchained (5/24/2012) [Excellent overview of the amendments to FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) enabling domestic agencies to spy on U.S. citizens to catch foreign “bogeymen” and the actual reach of the surveillance]

As can be seen, all of these developments require time, and the bypassing of the public awareness/consciousness.  Time is necessary to inculcate these changes; however, time also serves as a tool to insulate their actions from what would normally draw outcry if all the actions were taken at once.”

“… Consider the implications of the following statements in the article:

The weapon in question: Boeing’s “CHAMP,” short for Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project. It’s essentially the old nuclear electromagnetic pulse weapon that we used to worry so much about — but without the nuclear part. CHAMP carries a small generator that emits microwaves to fry electronics with pinpoint accuracy. It targets not nations or cities but individual buildings, blacking out their electronics rather than blowing up physical targets (or people).

What makes CHAMP even more interesting is that, unlike a nuclear electromagnetic pulse weapon, which fires once, blacking out entire nation-states, CHAMP can fire multiple times, pinpointing and blacking out only essential targets.

This would permit, for example, taking down radar defenses in a hostile state while saving the electrical grid that supports the civilian population. In a 2012 test flight in Utah, a single CHAMP was reported to have blacked out seven separate targets in succession, in one single mission.

And then there’s this even more relevant admission:

Even back then, a Boeing representative was able to boast:

“We hit every target we wanted to,” predicting further that “in the near future, this technology may be used to render an enemy’s electronic and data systems useless even before the first troops or aircraft arrive.” Four years later, that future has arrived. Air Force Research Laboratory commander Maj. Gen. Tom Masiello says CHAMP is “an operational

system already in our tactical air force.”

It takes little imagination to envision that this technology could be mounted on almost anything, from drones, to ships, trucks or vans, and so on, and even in manueuverable space satellites, and that it could be modified to track and target moving targets, such as aircraft….”

From the cited source article:

“… a Boeing representative was able to boast: “We hit every target we wanted to,” predicting further that “in the near future, this technology may be used to render an enemy’s electronic and data systems useless even before the first troops or aircraft arrive.” Four years later, that future has arrived. Air Force Research Laboratory commander Maj. Gen. Tom Masiello says CHAMP is “an operational system already in our tactical air force.”

Who makes it?

Boeing headlines the CHAMP product, but at least two other companies are known to be involved. According to Military Embedded Systems, it’s actually Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) that builds the electronic innards of the device — the “shooting end” of a weapon that doesn’t actually shoot anyone. (Raytheon’s involvement shouldn’t come as a surprise, given the company’s expertise building complementary weapons, such as its MALD-J radar-spoofing, electronics-jamming drone.)

Additionally, Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) builds the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile — Extended Range (JASSM-ER), which the Air Force intends to use as CHAMP’s delivery mechanism. A cruise missile with an estimated range in excess of 600 miles, JASSM-ER will itself be deployable from combat aircraft such as F-15 and F-16 fighter jets, B-1 and B-52 bombers, and the F-35 stealth fighter — extending CHAMP’s reach even further.

To date, Military Embedded Systems notes that the Air Force Research Laboratory has contracted Boeing to build only five CHAMP devices. But the trend in Pentagon acquisitions projects suggests the Air Force could soon be building these weapons en masse. From MALD-J radar-jamming drones to Switchblade kamikaze guided rockets and now CHAMP mini-electromagnetic-pulse weapons, the Air Force seems intent on fighting its next war more or less entirely by remote control….”

“In a sad but ironic twist of fate, the Friday mass shooting at the Fort Lauderdale -Hollywood International Airport comes one week before Florida legislators planned to debate a new bill allow the carrying of firearms in airports.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported Tuesday that Republican State Senator Greg Steube had introduced SB 140 to the state senate Judiciary Committee, to be considered sometime next week. The bill would repeal existing gun bans on college campuses, in airport terminals, and in government meetings.” Mediaite

Florida just happens to be in the middle of the process to ban guns from airports. What an “ironic twist of fate” huh?

It would also appear that Ari Fleischer was at the airport at that particular moment. Fleischer runs a consulting firm these days. He live Tweeted the entire thing making sure he stayed on top of the narrative. Ari runs Fleischer Communications which is a media management and strategy firm.

So here are some bullet points about this event to keep in mind while chatting with friends.

•A perfect case to promote their gun-grabbing agenda.

•It stole the headlines from the evidence-free CIA “intelligence” report on Russian hacking.

•A bill before the state congress hits the floor next week which argues citizens might just need guns in airports.

•A media management consultant manages the media live during the event.

•And they still don’t know what Esteban’s motive was…..”

Wayne, do you think that forcing Santiago to watch videos of ISIS was a form of MK Ultra or was the guy just nutz?

tried and tested (N/A)

I have read several MSM articles stating that per the FBI Santiago “appears” to have traveled to Florida to carry out the attack.

Is the FBI spreading speculation or trying to start something?

From what I have read, with his service in Iraq, having seen his co-workers blown up by IED’s, his subsequent demotion and discharge for performance and attendance issues, it sounds to me like the guy was suffering from PTSD with flashbacks. Do we suppose that maybe he made his way to Florida in hopes of making it back to Puerto Rico to his mother and brother? Are his job performance and attendance issues one more example of the United States Government/Military failure to acknowledge and treat? He obviously sought help.

Wayne Madsen (Washington)

The details might come out in a trial with not guilty plea due to insanity. If it’s a guilty plea, his “treatment” by the military / agency may never be revealed. It does sound like Treadstone from Bourne. Remember that Geoffrey Bourne and his drug prescribing son Peter were real people.

The DNC wants an excuse not to have to reform itself (and all the heavy intelligence analysis lifting comes from a DNC contractor with ties to Ukrainians who want to damage American-Russian relations), the CIA doesn’t want Trump to strip it of power (while the NSA, which should have all the info if it is a hack rather than a leak, is quiet), and the Ukrainians – not to mention the constant Cold Warriors, McCain and Graham – want to restart the Cold War leading to WWIII against the hated Russia.  It is a confluence of the interests of scoundrels, and the analysis of what is really going on here isn’t difficult.

Inquiry Points Toward a Pentagon Plot to Subvert Obama’s Syria Policy

By Gareth Porter

January 06, 2017 “Information Clearing House” – “Truth Dig” –  Airstrikes by the United States and its allies against two Syrian army positions Sept. 17 killed at least 62 Syrian troops and wounded dozens more. The attack was quickly treated as a non-story by the U.S. news media; U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the strikes were carried out in the mistaken belief that Islamic State forces were being targeted, and the story disappeared.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, however, suggested it may have been deliberate, its purpose being to sabotage President Obama’s policy of coordinating with Russia against Islamic State and Nusra Front forces in Syria as part of a U.S.-Russian cease-fire agreement.

Normally the U.S. military can cover up illegal operations and mistakes with a pro forma military investigation that publicly clears those responsible. But the air attack on Syrian troops also involved three foreign allies in the anti-Islamic State campaign named Operation Inherent Resolve: the United Kingdom, Denmark and Australia. So, the Pentagon had to agree to bring a general from one of those allies into the investigation as a co-author of the report. Consequently, the summary of the investigation released by CENTCOM on Nov. 29 reveals far more than the Pentagon and CENTCOM brass would have desired.

Thanks to that heavily redacted report, we now have detailed evidence that the commander of CENTCOM’s Air Force component attacked the Syrian army deliberately.

The Motives Behind a Pentagon Scheme

Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and the military establishment had a compelling motive in the attack of Sept. 17—namely, interest in maintaining the narrative of a “new Cold War” with Russia, which is crucial to supporting and expanding the budgets of their institutions. When negotiations on a comprehensive cease-fire agreement with Russia, including provisions for U.S.-Russian cooperation on air operations against Islamic State and Nusra Front, appeared to gain traction last spring, the Pentagon began making leaks to the news media about its opposition to the Obama policy. Those receiving the leaks included neoconservative hawk Josh Rogin, who had just become a columnist at The Washington Post.

After Secretary of State John Kerry struck an agreement Sept. 9 that contained a provision to set up a “Joint Integration Center” (JIC) for U.S.-Russian cooperation in targeting, the Pentagon sought to reverse it. Carter grilled Kerry for hours in an effort to force him to retreat from that provision, according to The New York Times.

Lobbying against the JIC continued the following week after Obama approved the full agreement. When the commander of the Central Command’s Air Force component, Lt. Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigan, was asked about the JIC at a press briefing Sept. 13, he seemed to suggest that opponents of the provision were still hoping to avoid cooperating with the Russians on targeting. He told reporters that his readiness to join such a joint operation was “going to depend on what the plan ends up being.”

But the Pentagon also had another motive for hitting Syrian troops in Deir Ezzor. On June 16, Russian planes attacked a remote outpost of a CIA-supported armed group, called the New Syrian Army, in Deir Ezzor province near the confluence of Iraq, Syria and Jordan. The Pentagon demanded an explanation for the attack but never got it.

For senior leaders of the Pentagon and others in the military, a strike against Syrian army positions in Deir Ezzor would not only offer the prospect of avoiding the threat of cooperating with Russia militarily, it would also be payback for what many believed was a Russian poke in the U.S. eye.

The Evidence in the Investigation Report

On Sept. 16, Gen. Harrigan, who also headed the Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) at al-Udeid airbase in Qatar, set in motion the planning for the attack on the two Syrian army positions. The process began, according to the investigation report, on Sept. 16, when Harrigan’s command identified two fighting positions near the Deir Ezzor airport as belonging to Islamic State, based on drone images showing that the personnel there were not wearing uniform military garb and, supposedly, displayed no flags.

But, as a former intelligence analyst told me, that was not a legitimate basis for a positive identification of the sites as Islamic State-controlled because Syrian army troops in the field frequently wear a wide range of uniforms and civilian clothing.

The report contains the incriminating revelation that the authorities at CAOC had plenty of intelligence warning that its identification was flat wrong. Before the strike, the regional station of the Distributed Common Ground System, which is the Air Force’s primary intelligence organ for interpreting data from aerial surveillance, contested the original identification of the units, sending its own assessment that they could not possibly be Islamic State. Another pre-strike intelligence report, moreover, pointed to what appeared to be a flag at one of the two sites. And a map of the area that was available to intelligence analysts at CAOC clearly showed that the sites were occupied by the Syrian army. Harrigan and his command apparently claimed, implausibly, that they were unaware of any of this information.

Further evidence that Harrigan meant to strike Syrian army targets was the haste with which the strike was carried out, the day after the initial intelligence assessment was made. The investigation summary acknowledges that the decision to go ahead with a strike so soon after the target had been initially assessed was a violation of Air Force regulations.

It had started out as a “deliberate target development” process—one that did not require an immediate decision and could therefore allow for a more careful analysis of intelligence. That was because the targets were clearly fixed ground positions, so there was no need for an immediate strike. Nevertheless, the decision was made to change it to a “dynamic targeting process,” normally reserved for situations in which the target is moving, to justify an immediate strike on Sept. 17.

No one in Harrigan’s command, including the commander himself, would acknowledge having made that decision. That would have been a tacit admission that the attack was far more than an innocent mistake.

The Deir Ezzor strike appears to have been timed to provoke a breakdown of the cease-fire before the JIC could be formed, which was originally to be after seven days of effective truce—meaning Sept. 19. Obama added a requirement for the completion of humanitarian shipments from the Turkish border, but the opponents of the JIC could not count on the Syrian government continuing to hold up the truck convoys. That meant that Harrigan would need to move urgently to carry out the strike.

Perhaps the single most damaging piece of evidence that the strike was knowingly targeting Syrian army bases is the fact that Harrigan’s command sent the Russians very specific misleading information on the targets of the operation. It informed its Russian contact under the deconfliction agreement that the two targets were nine kilometers south of Deir Ezzor airfield, but in fact they were only three and six kilometers away, respectively, according to the summary. Accurate information about the locations would have set off alarm bells among the Russians, because they would have known immediately that Syrian army bases were being targeted, as the U.S. co-author of the investigation report, Gen. Richard Coe, acknowledged to reporters.

‘Who is in charge in Washington?’

Gen. Harrigan’s strike worked like a charm in terms of the interests of those behind it. The hope of provoking a Syrian-Russian decision to end the cease-fire and thus the plan for the JIC was apparently based on the assumption that it would be perceived by both Russians and Syrians as evidence that Obama was not in control of U.S. policy and therefore could not be trusted as a partner in managing the conflict. That assumption proved correct. When Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, spoke to reporters at a press briefing outside a U.N. Security Council emergency meeting on the U.S. attack on Syrian troops, he asked rhetorically, “Who is in charge in Washington? The White House or the Pentagon?”

Seemingly no longer convinced that Obama was in control of his own military in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin pulled the plug on his U.S. strategy. Two days after the attacks, Syria announced, with obvious Russian support, that the cease-fire was no longer in effect.

The political-diplomatic consequences for Syrians and for the United States, however, were severe. The Russian and Syrian air forces began a campaign of heavy airstrikes in Aleppo that became the single focus of media attention on Syria. In mid-December, Secretary of State Kerry recalled in an interview with The Boston Globe that he had had an agreement with the Russians that would have given the United States “a veto over their flights. …” He lamented that “you’d have a different situation there now if we’d been able to do that.”

But it didn’t happen, Kerry noted, because “we had people in our government who were bitterly opposed to doing that.” What he didn’t say was that those people had the power and the audacity to frustrate the will of the president of the United States.

“… I cannot help come away from this article feeling – perhaps a better word here would be intuiting – that there is some sort of deep connection between the phenomenon of parabiosis, and all the stories we’ve seen in the past few decades, of pedophilia scandals and child sex-slavery rings, from all over the world, stories that have ranged the whole spectrum, up to and including occult rituals and human sacrifice. Certain members of the “elite” do seem oddly long-lived, even as their faces sag like melting wax on a wax museum replica. And some of these have publicly expressed an interest in parabiosis.

Of course, it’s purely speculation. I know of no detailed evidence of any sort to connect the two stories. But then again, there have been people who have suspected such connections. And they end up vilified, persecuted in various ways, laughed at, or simply dead by all-too-convenient accident. ….”
